Quick question. What are some of the issues that could cause too much pressure in the crankcase?

Worn/broken piston rings, worn cylinder wall, and/or broken piston(s) are the most likely culprits. First step should be to do a compression check on all the cylinders to see if you can pin point the offending cylinder.

Along with that compression check I would do a cylinder leakage test. Cylinder leakage test will tell you for sure where it losing compression at. Another thought is the pcv system or lack of one can cause high crankcase pressure.
